1-2 December 2009, London

Building an ASW capability for current and future threats

Developed states have failed to invest sufficiently in the skills and technologies necessary to counter a wide range of modern submarines and mini-submarines, with the result that even modest submarine capabilities are likely to pose significant threats, both to the international system and to naval and other expeditionary forces.

Rear Admiral (Ret'd) Chris Parry, Former Director General, Development, Concepts and Doctrine, UK Ministry Of Defence

The most comprehensive gathering of high level naval leaders and ASW experts to meet this year will discuss the key issues facing the ASW industry:

  • To what extent have we lost the skill set to provide an effective ASW capability?
  • What are the current and emerging threats?
  • How are we going to sustain our current ASW capability?
  • How do we best integrate future ASW capability and how can it be affordable?

We are honoured to welcome a distinguished speaker panel representing all the major nations at the forefront of ASW, including:

  • Rear Admiral Mark Anderson, Commander (Operations) to Commander in Chief Fleet, Rear Admiral Submarines NATO Commander Submarine Forces North (COMSUBNORTH)
  • Rear Admiral Rainer Brinkmann, Commander, Flotilla 1 and Director NATO Centre of Excellence for operations in Confined and Shallow Waters, Germany
  • Captain Paul Essig, Assistant Chief of Naval Research, Office of Naval Research (ONR), USA
  • Captain Bo Rask, Chief of Staff, Maritime Component Command, Sweden

Anti-submarine Warfare 2009 will be the definitive ASW event this year, we look forward to welcoming you to London in December.
